Ashley & Clint 2011

The love between Ashley and Clint was clear through the wedding planning process and especially their wedding day. The ceremony at the Anglican Church was a highlight for me. The atmosphere of the beautiful old church, combined with the "personalized" vows by Clint was very memorable. I just have to tell the story about the ceremony ... sorry Clint. The ceremony lead by the Anglican Minister was quite appropriately serious. It came time when Ashley and Clint could exchange personal words. Clint pulled his prepared speach from his pocket and began reading ... about 3/4 the way through he realized it was actually Ashley's speach ... what a hoot!! Amid much laughter he went on to finish his speach. Then came Ashley's time to read her speach to Clint ... well lets just say the funny parts were hilarious and the emotional parts were ... even more hilarious!

Cocktails and reception was hosted at the Corner Pocket near the Fernie skihill. We Connect Wedding Planning had a blast decorating the patio with lanterns, candles on poplar tree stumps, cocktail tables with lanterns, and even lighted branch trees. The decor inside was fantastic with gorgeous flower arrangements prepared by Bunches. The patio and inside decor was pulled together with more rustic lanterns, chalkboard table menus, coffee bean favors, and elegant table runners (from Great Events). Huge thanks to 6:8 Photography for capturing all the little details of the day and of the amazing decor.

I love their Engagement Story:

Clint and Ashley were set up on a blind date in February 2008. In many respects they owe their special day to their match-making friend Andrea Hatzinikolas and her accomplice, Penny Kollias. It should be noted that Clint and Ashley will be the fourth couple to be married thanks to Andrea’s unbelievable match-making skills. Their first date was a casual get-together at the Starbucks in Marda Loop and things quickly developed over the course of the next few months. A little extra romance and excitement was added to the first date when it was discovered that Clint had taken notice of Ashley at a different Starbucks three months prior and made sure to point her out to his brother Cory!  So I guess you could say their love grew from a Starbucks brew!

A number of months prior to their engagement Clint and Ashley started making a real effort to ensure they had time set aside each week for a “date night”. Given their “date nights” had become a regular occurrence, it wasn’t a total surprise to Ashley when Clint planned dinner at The Ranche in Fish Creek Park for Wednesday, August 11th. To ensure everything would go smoothly Clint went down to The Ranche during his lunch hour to scout out a spot to get down on one knee and also confirm his dinner reservation. To his dismay, he was told that there was a private function that evening and that his reservation was no longer valid. With slight panic, Clint changed his plans and secured a dinner reservation at the River Café in Prince’s Island Park.

Being out of the loop on the evening plans, Ashley’s sister Chelsea emailed Ashley earlier that afternoon suggesting an after-work beer.  Seeing as though the night’s plans had already changed once, Clint didn’t panic and simply opted to pick up Ashley at the pub on the way to dinner. In hindsight it’s somewhat amusing that, while enjoying their beer, Chelsea and Ashley spent some time chatting about the possibility of an engagement that night.  When Ashley was picked up by Clint, she proceeded to say: “Chelsea and I think that you might propose tonight…but who gets engaged on a Wednesday?”

Following an amazing dinner on the patio at the River Café, Clint and Ashley decided to follow that up with a stroll down the nearby paths of the Bow River. At this point Ashley was still slightly suspicious so felt it was necessary to visually check Clint’s pockets for a ring box. With no ring box in sight she happily went along for the walk…still with her slight suspicions of course. With beautiful August weather working in their favor, they made their way down to the river’s edge and when Ashley turned around Clint was there waiting on one knee!

From Prince’s Island Park they rushed back to their house where Allan and Laurel Barlow were happily waiting to celebrate with them. Chelsea was there waiting as well but was told they were all just meeting up for the weekly Barlow farm vegetable exchange. Allan and Laurel were in on the surprise, but Chelsea was very surprised to say the least.

The next morning, as Ashley was getting ready for another day of work, Clint brought to her attention one more surprise. A four-day trip to San Fransisco and the Napa Valley was articulately planned and the plane was departing in three short hours. Months earlier Clint was sure to talk with Ashley’s boss about securing her some time away from work.  They had a fantastic trip filled with great wine, great food, great weather and the best company!
