Bridging Ideas into Action.
The third Columbia Basin Trust Youth Action Forum - the Leaders of Tomorrow Forum - took place September 17 to 19th, 2004 at the Blue Lake Centre near Canal Flats, BC. The event brought together approximately seventy participants and mentors from around the Columbia Basin to bridge ideas into action. Project planning and project management skills were a focal point of the weekend and weaved throughout the Forum. The phenomenal lineup of guest speakers and workshops included an inspiring guest appearance by Christopher Swain (Columbia River Swim for Clean Water), a slide show on the majestic Columbia Basin by Barry Whiting, and workshops on the Columbia River Treaty, ethnobotany, strawbale building, sustainable communities, renewable energy, and organic agriculture.
The Leaders of Tomorrow Forum was focused on doing rather than talking. Participants left inspired and empowered to take action, rather than just rant about issues. Great projects ideas were generated such as: building a conscious consumerism action team, building a food project, starting a group to improve the recycling system on the East Shore, starting a kids ecology action group, planning a "Cranbrook Spring Clean", hosting a strawbale mudding party, and forming an "East Shore Barter and Trade" Program. This report summarizes our amazing weekend of inspiration, empowerment, skill building and networking. Click to view the Leaders Report.
